Steroid Receptors and Their Roles in Pig Uterus

چکیده

This study reviews the roles of steroid receptors, mainly oestrogen receptor alpha (ERα) and progesterone receptor (PR) in pig uterine tissues with an emphasis on various stages of the oestrous cycle comparing to the time of early pregnancy. In addition, the secretory and proliferative activities under the influence of steroid hormones and their specific receptors were also documented. Some differences were found with respect to uterine compartments and physiological status of the uterus which indicated the different roles of these receptors in controlling reproductive functions. As both ERα and PR proteins were found in almost all cells of some tissues compartments, it indicated that the two receptors could be co-localized in the same cell and therefore the interactions of these steroid receptors were needed in order to regulate reproductive functions in the pig uterus.

Steroid hormone receptors, MIB-1, p53, and c-erb-B2 expression on breast cancer: Comparison of immunohistochemistry on cell block and fine needle aspiration and tissue sample, in northwest Iran

Background: Fine-needle aspiration of breast cancer often provides moderate cellular material that is representative of the tumors. These samples can be used not only for cytological diagnosis but also to obtain information on the prognosis and likely response to therapy by using immunohistochemical staining studies. Methods: We assessed the degree of correlation between prognostic biologic ma...

Influence of Multiple Ovarian Cysts on the Immunohistochemical Localization of Progesterone Receptor in the Gilt Endometrium

Introduction In the swine farms, the reproductive disorders composed of repeat breeding, vaginal discharge, anestrus, not getting pregnant and abortion are the main problem resulting in culling lots of gilts (1). It is known that reproductive function of gilts is complicated to clinically explore under field surroundings, thus the reproductive organs from the slaughterhouses are the possible so...

Prognostic Values of Estrogen and Progesterone Expression Receptors in Ovarian Papillary Serous Carcinoma

Background and Objectives: Presence of steroid hormone receptors (estrogen and progesterone) in the tumor tissues of various organs correlates with response to therapy and prognosis. Since their role in ovarian cancer is still controversial, in this study we investigated the expression and prognostic value of the estrogen receptor (ER) and progesterone receptors (PR) in ovarian papillary ser...

Cytochrome P450arom, androgen and estrogen receptors in pig sperm

BACKGROUND Androgens and estrogens are crucial for mammalian sperm differentiation but their role in biology of mature male gamete is not still defined. The expression of proteins involved in the biosynthesis and action of these steroid hormones has been demonstrated in human spermatozoa, but very few data have been reported in mature sperm from non human species. The purpose of the current stu...

The hormonal milieu in primary breast cancer: A correlation between steroid receptors and serum estradiol, progesterone and prolactin

Background: The female breast is subjected to a lifetime of hormonal controls, whose effect is evident at the time of menarche and during the menstrual cycle, pregnancy and lactation. Studies have reported multiple risk factors for breast cancer, some of which are a reflection of hormonally mediated events. The steroid receptors are also served as prognostic factors for evaluating status of mal...
